Candy Graphing

For the past week the girls have been working with different types of graphs.  To make graphing a bit more fun, the girls were given candy hearts and we compared how many letters each had on their own heart.  We found that most of the girls had candy hearts with 5, 6 or 7 letters.  Afterwards, they given a handful of candy hearts and they sorted and graphed them according to color.  The girls loved this activity and especially loved eating the leftover hearts!

Sorting Challenge

Yesterday, the girls had the challenge of sorting all of our manipulatives by shape, color and size.  They worked together in groups of 5 to complete the task.  It was so much fun and the girls did a beautiful job of cooperating!

If I lived in a Snowglobe...

If you lived in a snowglobe, what would YOU do?  During our Writer's Workshop period today, your daughters had so much fun coming up with creative ideas about what they would do if they were stuck in a snowglobe.  Some said they would ice skate every day, make friends with a snowman, and bask in the sun and drink hot cocoa.  Be sure to ask your daughter what she would do!

Math Centers

The girls had so much fun working in math centers today.  Some of the different centers they completed were: computer, number line, fishing for goldfish, and iPad!  Be sure to ask your daughter which station was her favorite.

Celebrating Our Differences

The Pre-First girls began their new social studies unit this week called Celebrating Our Differences.  We read The Colors of Us, a wonderful story about how a little girl takes a walk through her neighborhood and sees the world from an artist's point of view.  Today we learned how to mix watercolors and started painting our packets.  Make sure you ask your daughter what color she chose for herself...there were some pretty creative ideas!

Author of the Month

We have a new Author of the Month in Pre-First.  She is from the land down under, she was raised in Africa, and is one of the best known authors in Australia.....she is Mem Fox!  The girls were so excited to learn about our new author.  We read "Harriet, You'll Drive Me Wild" and went to Mem Fox's website to learn all about her.  In the next few weeks, we will be reading more books that Mem Fox has written and complete a variety of activities.

Gingerbread Decorating

Welcome back!  We hope that everyone had a restful holiday break.  We missed your daughters so much and were thrilled to see them this morning!  Below are some pictures from the last day of school when we decorated our gingerbread people.  It was such a fun activity and we are extremely grateful to all of the parents who were able to help out with the candy maddness.
