Fun Friday

Who doesn't love a Friday?  We can't think of a better way to celebrate a week full of learning and hard work than with a "Fun Friday"!!!  Each Friday, we try to incorporate as much movement and fun into our lessons as possible.  Here is your first peek at your Pre-Firster's Fun Friday.

Math center time--on Fridays we like to have the girls work in centers, each station representing a certain lesson or skill we learned throughout the week.

 

 

Here is our iPad station, they are working on ordering/sequencing numbers.

 

M&M Addition--the girls had to sort M&Ms and then add the colors together.

 

Our computer game focused on sorting different objects by using a Venn Diagram.

 

 

Mystery Reader

 

Today we welcomed our first Mystery Reader, Catelyn Godey's mom, Tracy!   From the moment that the girls walked through the door this morning, it was difficult to control their excitement.  Like we mentioned at Back to School night, please let us know if someone special is in town and would like to be our Mystery Reader--we will do our best to accommodate you :-)

Sorting, sorting, sorting

Today the girls reviewed different methods of sorting.  This was both a math review lesson as well as a "secret" lesson to prepare them for their word sorts, which will start next week.  We introduced the lesson by having the girls sort a tub of materials they use every day.

 

 

 

We then separated them into 2 groups and had the girls sort different items around the room. 

 

The girls had a great time and enjoyed working together to discover the many ways you could sort one type of object.

Author of the Month--Donald Crews

Our first Author of the Month is Donald Crews.  We will do different activities with many of his books.  So far, we have read School Bus and Sail Away.  Today we read Sail Away and used the pictures as clues to help us understand the unfamiliar words in the story.  And, since it's Fun Friday, we made our own sailboats using different foods!  The girls loved it and were the envy of the other classes at recess as they made their way outside with their prized creations.

Welcome to Pre-First!

We are 9 days into our school year and already we are having so much fun!  We have such an exciting school year ahead of us and wanted to share our accomplishments with you. Come back and check our blog as often as you can--we look forward to seeing you all soon!
