Fishing for Inches

The girls all went fishing today without getting wet!  The girls had to fish for different sea animals that were all different lengths.  Once they caught their fish, they had to take their "catch" back to their desks and measure it in inches, marshmallows and unifix cubes.

Jelly Bean Math

How many activities can you do with jelly beans?  Plenty!  To get ready for our long weekend, the girls completed a math packet based on jelly beans.  They sorted, tallied, graphed and patterned jelly beans...and of course got to eat some in the process.

3-D shapes we know!

We have been learning all about 3-D shapes in math.  The girls are able to give examples of cubes, cones, spheres, cylinders and pyramids!  Today, we created our own pyramids and the girls sang a little song that they learned on the first day of shapes.  If you listen long enough, it could get stuck in your head as well :-)

Planting our seeds

The girls became gardeners today and planted their sunflower seeds.  They had a great time putting the soil into their pots, planting their seeds and watering their plants for the first time.  We are keeping a journal to record their plants growth over the next few weeks.

Bursting into spring!

With this beautiful weather, it's hard not to get into the spirit of springtime!  We have started our new science unit on spring.  The girls will become scientists, observing and recording all of the different things that they see around them.  Today we read From Seed to Plant and began talking about how plants grow--all in anticipation of potting and growing our own sunflower plants.  Today we painted our flower pots and the girls had a blast!
